The other day I went to the vegetable stand to pick up a few things to complete Sunday's dinner. While I was there, I purchased two cartons of strawberries and when I got home and began to clean them I noticed that most of them had gone bad, a few were starting to go bad and some were perfectly fine.
It was at that moment I heard the Holy Spirit say "bad company corrupts good character." Such a powerful statement,1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” but what did it have to do with strawberries? I tried to push it out of my mind but those words kept bothering me. The more I thought about it, the more I began to understand.
All of the strawberries in the carton started off good, but then one or two started to go bad and the longer the bad strawberries remained mixed in with the good ones, they would all eventually go bad.
When God cleans us up, we become new and we have to let the old stuff go. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life begins.Yes, this means old attitudes, old habits, hangout spots and even some friendships.
Think about it, if I am new in Christ but the company I keep is still in the world eventually I'm going to revert back to the world. Don't worry about hurting feelings. It's okay to disconnect. When I first got saved I went from a whole lot of "friends" to less than a handful, was I hurt? Absolutely. Did this mean that I didn't love them anymore? Absolutely not!
However, I had to come to the understanding that in order for me to grow in God's garden he had to pluck away the weeds and replant me in new soil.
